It is with heartwrenching sadness that I let you all know that Polly passed away in her sleep last night sometime between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. this morning.

Polly came her from Germany at 4.5. While she was here she earned her CGC, AD and Ztp. She won two Siegerin titles, one a National...although she eluded the Select Female title several times. She did all we asked of her, more than we ever expected. She had unbelievable temperament, excellent structure a topline to die for and movement...like floating on clouds. I'll forever laugh at images of her bouncing around like a kangaroo every time Joeri handled her. She absolutely *loved* Tony Sajiewicz and Skip & Jen Bittner who handled her for me as well. Tony who did her AD and handled her to her Siegerin titles. And Ron who took her to Germany for us.

And I'll never forget the CRC Sieger show...Vicky Weaver, Pam Marsh, Skip & Jen, Joe Hedl, Khalid...all the AKC people and handlers around the ring cheering for the tailed Rotteiler bitch with the lovely movement...calling her name as she gaited around the ring, head held high and eyes sparkling...

Thank you all for those memories.

But most of all she was just my Polly girl....my PollyWollyDingDong. She was a kind and gentle soul, always a 'smile' on her face and a sparkle in her eye. Queen of the purple 'ballie'. She had a terrific sense of humor and all who met her loved her. She loved all people no matter what size. She was just a happy, happy girl. Not a mean bone in her body...yet she'd trounce Fausto or Disel if they tried to take her ball. She made me laugh like no other with her silly antics.

She will live on in her kids...all 7 of them...all who are doing some kind of work but most of all are good pets and good public citizens...Bacchus, Cyra, Camillus, Colby, Gryphon, Gustavo and Gaea.

2006 ARV National Siegerin
2005 ARV Northwest Regional Siegerin
Multi V1 & Internationally Multi V-rated
Multi German Youth Siegerin
Polly von der Frankentanne
BH, AD, ZTP (06/10/05), CGC

8/13/01 - 4/7/09

Godspeed Polly. We'll miss you more than you can ever imagine.

I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. She was too young to go. She was an absolute pleasure to take care of...well she did keep me on my toes. When in Germany going into new places there was not a doorway or corner she did not feel compelled to want to goto or investigate. She handled all those new experiences like she had been there before. She loved our long walks around the park & town. I enjoyed them with her too.

Our Condolences to both of you, she will be missed.

Samantha and Steve we are sorry for your loss. I can't remember if I ever saw Polly in person, which is not unusual for me, but thanks for taking the time to tell us about her personal side. After I read those words I felt like I knew her and it made me think again about some dogs we have had croos over in the past. They give us some great memmories, don't they!?!? God bless.

I cannot tell you all how much your words mean to me right now at this juncture. Thank you for that.

I took her to the vet for her remains to be cremated this morning. It appears that she died from bloat. I went to bed at 2 a.m and she was fine. I went to let her out at 6 and she was gone. I am just so upset that she suffered like that. I know there is nothing I could have done, but it still wrecks me all the same. My vet staff was wonderful. They all loved her to death and were as shocked and saddened as we were by her sudden passing.

I cannot even tell you all how much I miss her...but somehow I know you all know.

I'll miss her snoring...dear God could she snore. I could hear her three floors up in our old house. It was comforting when I used to work late at nights in the office that steady loud rhythm. Although I didn't get much sleep the nights I slept in the whelping pen with her and her pups. I'll never forget her stretched out beside me that obnoxious snoring right in my ear because she insisted that her nose belonged right outside of my ear. No matter how I shifted her she'd wriggle back so that her nose was next to my ear.

I'll miss hearing that 'hound bay' that she had...oh, no Polly couldn't bark like a Rottweiler...she bayed just like a hound. Even at Schutzhund training. Everyone swore she was a Black & Tan Coonhound on steroids. She had to do *everything* in her *own* unique Polly style.

I'll miss her Stevie Wonder head bob she did every night in her kennel while I was dishing her food.

Or how she danced all the time...her feet were NEVER still...we called her Happy Feet long before the movie came out.

I'll miss that she refused to lick your face...but she'd lick your ankles endlessly.

I'll miss how she'd lay under our glass cocktail table and EVERY single time smack her head on it as she was getting up, shake her head and then look at me like 'How did that get there'.

Or the time she hoovered a garden glove I hadn't seen in *years* before I could cross the yard to get it. She was really proud of that one...gave me a heart attack...but she was all kinds of happy about it.

Most of all I am just angry that she was taken so suddenly and that I didn't get to hold her head in my lap as she left this world and say goodbye.

Its been a tough year with Athena last April (4/29), Hexe this September (9/19) and now Polly today.

I really appreciate all of the kindness and support from all of you.

This will be little comfort to you, but it at least will let you know you were not alone

Over the 11 years I managed the large boarding kennel we had several dogs bloat. There "appears" to be two forms of bloat.

In one there is extensive "lead time" drooling, pacing, vomiting etc and those dogs are usually found and saved by emergency surgery

I was able to save all the dogs at the kennel that bloated in this fashion

In the other the speed of progression is incredible from start to end is pretty swift

We had a German Shorthair Pointer at the kennel who was fed at 3PM and was contentedly sleeping at 11PM last potty and dead at 6:30 AM from bloat

I personally have lost two brothers (my F litter) who were calm and fine when fed at 6Am in their crates and within 2-3 hours were not only fully bloated but at the vet being deemed unsavable and euthanized. In the case of my two boys they appeared to go from fine, to a few foamy vomits then directly into shock and not displaying any pain symptoms (no pacing, whining etc)

Don't beat yourself up over this. If Polly had the second type of bloat you could have been standing on top of her (as I was-and I was less than 5 miles from a vet) and most likely been unable to make a difference

Polly will be waiting for you with eyes aglow and tail wagging at the bridge

HUGS

Samantha, when you called me yesterday morning I was so shocked. I just couldn't believe what you were telling me even though I see bloat at last once a week. I know it's tough on you that you didn't get to say goodbye, but she knew you loved her as she did you, unconditionally. Again, my thoughts, prayers and sympathies go out to you and Steven. If you need me, you know where I am hon.
