I have not posted in a while but wanted to ask a question here about fertility and heat cycles. I've worked at many breeding kennels but my bitch I own now has such crazy cycles and I am not sure what to think. My bitch is going to be 3years this May. Her heat cycles are so weird, I cannot really tell when she goes into season.
In these three years I have seen MAYBE four drops of blood ever. And she is not licking herself to keep herself clean, there is just no blood. About the only tell at that point that she is in season (I think) is that she drops coat. She sleeps in a white crate on light colored bedding which I clean weekly, so I would notice blood. All of a sudden my male will get a little interested, but not like he should. She will swell only slightly, sometimes barely larger than normal. She looks ready for breeding (ie. flagging) only for about four days, at which time she is kenneled off my property at my work. So really I only have about a week and a half that I am dealing with bitch in season. That's just way to short a period of time. I should be seeing some more bleeding, or at least notice her grooming herself, which she is not.
Does this sound like a heat cycle any one has had experience dealing with, and if so, what has been your experience with breeding and fertility?
